Dear Educator:
Your students are probably looking for financial aid and scholarships to help pay for college costs as they apply to various colleges for admission. Applying for financial aid and scholarships may seem like a confusing process, but if they are provided with easy to understand information; the financial aid process can be fairly simple.
My name is Sedgwick Hines and I'm the author of The Scholarship Workbook. The Scholarship Workbook is a step-by-step guide designed to help students search and apply for financial aid and scholarships to help pay for college. There are four steps explained in The Scholarship Workbook to make the financial aid process less confusing and less intimidating.
How do I know about the financial aid process?
Well, it cost me approximately $130,000 to attend Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. Although, I received nearly $90,000 in scholarships, grants, and institutional aid to help pay for college. I still had to borrow close to $40,000 in Student, PLUS, and Alternative loans to help pay for college and flight training costs. Knowing what I know now, I should have applied to more scholarships . However, financial aid and scholarships allowed me to pursue my childhood dream of becoming a professional airline pilot. (Click here if you'd like to read more about my financial aid experience...)
After graduating from college, I wrote and published my first book titled “Aviation Scholarship Directory” to help students find aviation scholarships. After publishing the second edition of this book, I was asked numerous questions by students and parents about the financial aid process.
Some of the questions asked by past students and parents may be the same questions that your students and their parents are asking you and themselves:
How am I going to pay for college?
What is the financial aid process?
How do I apply for financial aid?
What are the different types of financial aid?
What is the FAFSA and how do I complete this form?
Am I eligible for financial aid?
My parents make too much money, do I qualify for scholarships?
Where are the scholarships located?
When should I start applying for scholarships?
How do I increase my chances of winning scholarships?
After answering their questions, I realized that most students and parents don’t have a clue about the financial aid process, how to search and apply for scholarships, or how to increasing their chances of winning scholarships.
So I wrote The Scholarship Workbook to simplify the entire financial aid and scholarship process for students and parents by making it a step-by-step guide.
